Advertising and distribution

How has advertising changed:

- Has become much more intelligent.
- Adverts are online more often.
- Best adverts are those that you don't know what is being advertised.

Ways to advertise to someone:
- Tv adverts
- Billboards
- Sponsorship
- Social media
- Newspaper
- Product placement
-Youtube
- Merchandise
- Pop up
- Leaflets
- Posters
- Word of mouth

Advertising is paying for space to draw attention to your brand.

In a media product it is not appear that you are watching an advert.

The laws have recently changed on TV and we are now seeing a lot more product placement. For example, Costa coffee and Co-op and open in correlation street.

Types of advertising

Display advertising- An advert that appears on a third party website. Traditional advertising.

Social media ad- Adverts that show up on social media.

Search Engine Marketing- At the top of a search engine result.

Native Advertising- Takes you to the page of the sponsored item.  Such as, Facebook or Instagram.

Remarking- Marketing to the people that are already following the brand.  Such as likes on Facebook. Not effective as it doesn't reach out to new customers only advertising to those who follow.

Video Ads- Youtube ads or any type of video ad. Easily ignored.

Email Marketing- Advertisement that is sent to customers. Easily ignored.

The reason that we still use traditional advertising is because of the older generation.

Incidental views are those who don't follow what is being advertised.

Above the line advertising- This is when media is used to advertise and sell brands to us.

What is here is fine and quite detailed. However, I believe these notes are incomplete, missing out many pieces of terminology - including below the line advertising. In addition, please consider your layout - these are used for revision afterall! Think colour, images, examples, bold, italics, subheadings.

Please leave a comment below as a reflection on feedback and explaining any changes you have made - this particularly with a focus on getting all terms defined with examples.
