How is the genre established?
The contemporary rock is established in this magazine front cover. It is established in the look for the actors. The actors look as if they are rock stars and this of what the magazine is going to be about.
The masthead is large and bold, this gives the connotation of being loud and out there which the magazine tries to aim to be, this could represent the chaotic contemporary lifestyle of the artist s featured inside, the edgy font represents rebelliousness.

Shot type
This is a mid shot. It shows the faces of the band. This is ideal to use as a contemporary rock magazine front cover as its shows the band members faces covered with make up to make them look scary and rebellious. This links to the theme of contemporary rock as it the type of music is seen as a rebellious genre. They all have strange looks on their faces as well this could show that the rock genre is

Mise-en-scene
The font that is used in the front cover is bold and all the writing is in capital letters. This relates to the type of music as it is very loud. There are also lots of exclamation marks at the end of each heading.
The image that is included in the on the front cover is a heart shaped grenade. This links heavy to the theme of contemporary rock as it is seen as an explosive genre, it is loud and the artists don't seem tp care about what they say or what they do.

They are all wearing gothic clothing. This shows that the music that is performed by the group is dark and may even be quite gory as well.

Colour Scheme
The colour scheme is done in a very clever way. One of the headings is green day so they have a green and white colour scheme. The grenade is also red. This could represent blood.
